Today was our first full day in Kona, Hawaii for a mission trip through our church, The Harvest with 9 other intern alumns, for which I am primarily responsible for the mission photography and driving. Yesterday we began with a 3 hour plane ride to LA, followed by a 3 hour layover and another 5 and a half hour plane ride to Kona International Airport, arriving at around 8pm local time (1:00am Texas time…). By the time we got our rental car and to the hotel, checked in and went to grab a bite to eat it was nearly 12:00am local time and we were all pretty thoroughly exhausted and ready to hit the ground running today.
I woke up, had a good breakfast overlooking the ocean and we went to check out the Living Stones Church down the street where we received a great message in an outdoor setting right along the beach which was an amazing experience. We followed it up with an ocean baptism for 4 of the church’s congregation which was beautiful and we even received a visit from a curious sea turtle!
After lunch we enjoyed some great local Thai food, then hit up Walmart for some supplies followed by 2-3 hours of free time, dinner and some time on the beach after sunset to chill before calling it a day. Today was mostly about getting accustomed to the city and recovering from the day before’s travel and time difference and tomorrow we have a full day planned for which there are sure to be many more photos to come!
