Timestack Photography and Me

One of my new favorite techniques for photography that I’ve somewhat taken and made my own is a fun little process called “timestacking”.  The timestack process really isn’t that difficult, but the results are something that I’m really starting to love, with an almost impressionist style painted feel to each shot that feels more like art than a photo and something cool to hang on our walls with a story behind it.  The final result is around 100-300 different images stacked on top of each other to let only the lighter elements of the next photo to show through, creating a sense of movement within the photo and simulating paintbrush strokes across the canvas, with a sometimes surreal spin to it.  The thing that I focus on when taking each shot is first the clouds, which are generally a big focus of each shot, and also the foreground elements and what might be moving through the shot.  It’s a bit more of a challenge than just taking a single shot with more to think about which I like, and I’m still trying to figure out new ways to enhance and build on it to make it more my own.
